Everyone knows you’re supposed to stay out of the sun, or at least keep your precious face protected while in it to avoid wrinkles. But growing up, hiding your face at the beach or pool wasn’t exactly chic. I remember making fun of my mom hiding under her enormous sunglasses and huge hate, and feeling embarrassed of her ridiculous pool attire. But now that I’m old enough to truly fear wrinkles and the ozone has been depleted further, sun protection has become a chic business, and that includes headgear. While I often rely on a trust old baseball hat at the beach, which I wear diligently while sitting under an umbrella, straw hats have made a serious comeback in the last couple of years, and I’m feeling like it might be time to sport one of my own. I love the wide brim protection they offer, and the fact that they’re just plain old chic looking. While wearing them outside the beach doesn’t feel very practical for this city dweller, I also love how (mostly) bloggers are pairing them with everything from sundresses to cutoffs to stay protected at outdoor parties, polo matches, and even on farmer’s market runs. It’s smart and the fact that you can look on-trend at the same time is major incentive to jump on this one.
