One of my favorite easy outfit combos is pairing sneaker and skirts. The classic gym shoe instantly ups the cool factor of skirts and dresses. Midi skirts lose their prim factor when paired with sneakers and cocktail dresses drop the fancy factor when worn with gym shoes. It’s the unexpected shoe choice that makes the look so cool. Personally, I love to be comfortable, especially when running around, so I would sneakers every day if I could. And by pairing sneakers with skirts, I’m able to wear them to work or for events a lot more than I care to admit without anyone batting an eye. But because it’s an unconventional pairing, there are some things to keep in mind when figuring out how to wear sneakers and skirts.
Here are some tips for how to wear sneakers and skirts:
Choose the Right Sneakers: You’ll want to choose the right sneakers to fit the vibe you’re going for — anything from high top Converse to New Balance dad sneakers to SuperGa classic white sneaks work. Avoid true gym sneakers, which can generate more of an 80s commuter working girl vibe. You can fit the vibe of your skirt or for a cool fashion-forward look, go with an unexpected pairing. Dad sneakers with a prim full midi skirt, for example. Try high tops with a mini skirt or slip dress.
Skirt Length Matters: Midi and mini skirts tend to pair best with sneakers. A-line and pleated skirts are versatile options that often work well with sneakers.
Consider the Skirt Material: Casual fabrics like denim, cotton, or jersey often work best with sneakers. They create a more cohesive and relaxed outfit. Silk or satin skirts can also be paired with sneakers for a stylish contrast between casual and elegant elements.
