Even before I had kids or frankly was even pregnant, I was excited to decorate a nursery. I naively thought it would be easy because I had so many ideas. But I actually found it really hard to put together all the pieces when we were getting James’ room ready before he was born. And now three kids in, I still find it takes time to put all the pieces together. In fact, I’m still not done decorating Brooks’ nursery. Boy nurseries are hard to decorate — I’ve found there just aren’t as many options, similar to boys’ clothes. We didn’t find out our kids’ genders in advance, so that further complicated matters. I really love blue, and I was really obsessed with navy, so we decided to go with that for James’ nursery rather than the greys and neutral nurseries that were flooding my Pinterest feed at the time. From there, the hardest part was really just deciding on the details that would make the room — the rug, curtains, bedding, and the artwork. I really struggled to find the right decorations for the walls, so I thought I’d compile nursery art ideas for anyone else finding it difficult to find the perfect piece to hang over the crib or changing table.
It’s not that nursery art ideas don’t abound. It’s that they’re mostly the same things — animals, letters, your child’s initials or name. Most of what I saw over the years felt too cutesy or borderline cheesy. I have also found that almost everyone uses the same nursery art, which is fine and there are some pieces I love so much I don’t mind seeing a million times. But I like to go against the grain sometimes and wanted more options for my kids’ nurseries. I also liked the idea of pieces that could grow with them or work for future siblings of the same or different gender. Now three nurseries in, I have found some really sweet nursery art ideas that work with a mix of colorways and designs, so I thought I’d round up and share all my favorites.
