One of my favorite ways to transition your summer wardrobe into the fall and winter is to layer a turtleneck under your dress This is such a simple fashion hack that can extend your wardrobe and make all those sleeveless dresses you invested in do double duty. I will also do this with long sleeve dresses too if they’re roomy enough to stay warm on those really cold days and add an element of interest. This style hack is also a great way to make a cocktail dress work for daytime. I do this a lot for work and events, where I’ll put on a fancier dress and put a black, grey or ivory turtleneck underneath and you have a fun daytime look. It adds a cozy-casual vibe and yet the extra neck coverage keeps it feeling polished enough for the office. This style trick works with more casual styles as well. And I’ll often then throw a blazer on for a more polished look, or I’ll add a cardigan over for an even cozier and more layered look.
The trick when you layer a turtleneck under your dress is to pick a dress that isn’t too tight in the chest area so that it doesn’t bunch. You want to choose a turtleneck that will easily layer underneath so a tissue weight or you can go a bit heavier if the dress is a thicker wool or boxier style.
I love how this styling trick not only keeps you warm (and I’m always cold), but also helps to extend the life of your wardrobe. It makes more summery and sleeveless and short sleeve dresses work through the winter months, can dress down cocktail dresses, and give you extra warms on freezing days when you want/need to wear a dress.
