While blazers are an office staple, they’re also one of my favorite pieces to throw on when I’m going out at night. As someone who is perpetually cold, I always like to have an extra layer with me, especially when wearing something skimpier like a going out top or sleeveless dress. And while cardigans can look cool when styled right, for a night out, I prefer a jacket. It just looks more polished and cool. When I’m not in the mood for a moto jacket, I usually go for a black blazer with some leather trim from Helmut Lang or in warmer weather, I’ll go for a crisp white linen option from Theory. But for the holidays, I’m considering taking a style trick from the red carpet, and styling my blazers with nothing underneath. I like how the look is understated sexy, allows me to wear pants and long sleeves on chilly nights without being fully covered up, and allows me to repurpose something already in my closet instead of buying another holiday dress I’ll likely only wear once or twice. I love the look with fitted ankle-length pants or black leather skinnies or even jeans for more casual fetes, but it’s also a chic way to sexy up a maxi skirt for a nod to the minimalist ’90s. And with a pencil skirt, it could give off major sexy secretary vibes but in a totally sophisticatedly stylish way.
