So instead of starting this post by saying “well, this week was a doozy” as I initially started to type, I’m going to take a pause, because that goes against what I’ve been saying about saying no more to things and enjoying the holiday season. This week was a whirlwind, as are all weeks with four kids, a growing business, and a newborn. But you know what? I am really trying to have fun and enjoy the holidays and this season of life. I woke up recently and realized that I didn’t want to wake up in ten or 20 years and be like, I didn’t enjoy that time. I don’t want to not enjoy a decade of my life or have regrets because we only get one shot when our kids are little. I also don’t want to set the example of parents who were just tired and unhappy, ya know? I don’t want them to grow up to do the same. I feel like I don’t remember my parents necessarily enjoying the holidays but when they did, I remember those memories most, and I’d like to bring that to my kids. So I’m trying to have more fun, play Christmas music, insist any movies watched are Christmas movies, not freak out when we’re late, play with them, and do the messy baking etc. without freaking out. This is all easier said than done, but I’m trying and I’m also making time for mom and dad to have fun and that’s made a big difference. We’re saying no to a lot but we’re also saying yes to events and dinners etc. that we love and make us happy. We’re tired anyway, so one night out isn’t going to ruin that and weekends are marathons whether we do a Santa Brunch or not, so when we have the energy and it’s not too stressful, we are leaning in, and so there are things to get dressed for as you’ll see in my roundup of what I wore the second week of December 2024.
With that said, I’m not checking everything off my winter bucket list this holiday season, and I’m okay with that. And as i’ve mentioned before, we’re opting out of a LOT. I just don’t have the energy to do all the parties and events for brands and clubs and even friends. I want to prioritize the kids in this season and also my sanity. I don’t want to get to Christmas and feel depleted because that’s when the magic truly picks up for us, as we spend the holidays with family skiing, and it’s my favorite tradition and what I look forward to all year round. I can’t wait to go this year even if I won’t get tons of time on the slopes. But first, another holiday weekend that isn’t overly scheduled but has some fun on the agenda. And here’s what I wore the second week of December 2024.
