Some of my most popular posts on the blog right now are all my posts on organizing. I get it. It’s January. We all want a refresh and to start clean. It’s also the middle of winter, spring is in sight, and we are hunkered down at home and looking to clean up our spaces and our lives. I have a larger post about organizing your closet, but the most popular of my organizing posts are actually the more specific ones I did like how to organize your shoes and purses. I’m not surprised people are looking for help organizing accessories. I wrote those because I found it hard to organize those areas of my closet as well, especially without a custom or large closet and ever-growing collections. Accessories like shoes, purses and jewelry are often items you collect, so they’re harder to purge and therefore, you need a good system for storing them. I finally have a big closet with space to organize my shoes and purses, but I have had my jewelry in an assortment of little bags and boxes since the move and honestly, haven’t worn much jewelry simply because I don’t know what’s where. After spending way too long frantically searching for a pair of beloved earrings before going out the other night, I decided it’s time to figure out how to organize your jewelry.
I like to look to Pinterest and some of my favorite organizing influencers and professionals for ideas on how to store everything in a meaningful way and then take what I can from their expertise that will work within my spaces. This weekend during naps I’m going to carve out some time to get my jewels in order, and to help, I put together a post on how to organize your jewelry with inspiration and pro tips.
My top tips for how to organize your jewelry:
Gather all your jewelry in one place
Start by collecting all your jewelry from various places, such as drawers, boxes, and cabinets. Lay everything out on a clean, flat surface so you can see what you have.
Sort and declutter: As you gather your jewelry, take the opportunity to declutter. Sort through your collection and decide what to keep, what to donate, and what to discard. Consider factors like sentimental value, how often you wear an item, and condition of the pieces.
Categorize your jewelry
Group your jewelry into categories to make it easier to organize. Common categories include necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, watches, and miscellaneous items like brooches or pins.
Choose the right storage solutions
Depending on your space and preferences, select storage solutions for each category of jewelry. I showcase some ideas below, but Here are some options:
Jewelry boxes: Use jewelry boxes with compartments, drawers, or built-in hooks for necklaces and bracelets. These boxes come in various sizes and designs.
Jewelry organizers: Invest in jewelry organizers like hanging organizers, wall-mounted racks, or display stands. These are great for keeping your jewelry visible and tangle-free.c.
Drawer dividers: Place drawer dividers or organizers in your dresser or vanity drawers to create sections for different types of jewelry.d. Ice cube trays or pill organizers: These are handy for small items like earrings, rings, or beads.
Jewelry trays or dishes: Display your favorite pieces on decorative trays or dishes on your vanity or dresser.
Jewelry rolls or travel cases: Keep your jewelry organized and secure when you’re on the go. Also a great solution if you’re keeping them in a drawer or cabinet.
Store Jewelry Properly
When choosing a storage solution, you want to ensure that each piece of jewelry is stored in a way that prevents tangling, scratching, and damage.
-Use soft jewelry pouches or individual jewelry bags to protect delicate items.
-Store necklaces and bracelets in separate compartments or hooks to prevent them from getting tangled.
-Use jewelry boxes with padding or felt lining to prevent scratching.
-Keep sterling silver jewelry in anti-tarnish pouches or containers to slow down tarnishing.
Use Draw Dividers

Use Smaller Compartments to Sort By Type

Lay Necklaces and Watches Flat in Drawers to Keep Visible and Avoid Tangling

Use Felt Liners to Keep Pieces From Slipping

Use Jewelry Organizers to Keep Each Type and Collection in Its Own Cubby

Hang Necklaces to Avoid Tangling

Use Little Boxes and Trays to Display and Store Jewelry

Use Wall Hooks to Hang Necklaces and Bracelets

Label and categorize: If you have a large jewelry collection, consider labeling your storage solutions or categorizing them further. This will help you quickly find the piece you’re looking for.
Let me know what we should organize next!
