I can’t believe that not only are the holidays here, but Christmas will be here before we know it. In some ways it feels like the countdown has been on forever (maybe the Christmas decorations lining store shelves in August makes it seem that way?), and in other ways, it feels like it’s flying by way too fast. Christmas Eve is one of my favorite nights of the year. I remember how full of energy and excitement I was on Christmas Eve, waiting for Santa’s arrival and celebrating with my dad’s parents and family with a big family dinner and gift exchange. My husband’s family doesn’t make as big of a thing out of Christmas Eve (in fairness, they spend the holidays in Park City skiing so that’s a big thing on its own and they have a big Christmas day celebration), but I have made it my mission to show him what he’s missing out on, especially now that I have kids of my own. So I try to make sure we plan something fun for our Christmas Eve celebration each year, even if it’s after a long day of traveling or skiing and we’ve got lots to do (i.e., presents to wrap and cookies to bake and set out) before Santa arrives. Because I like to extend Christmas as long as possible and really milk it for every last cookie and carol (and because I love dressing up), I like to plan what to wear on Christmas Eve in advance and make it something festive and fun. After all, the holidays only happen once a year.
One of my most popular posts this time of year is what to wear to Christmas Dinner, and apparently, people want to know how to dress for the night before as well. I get it. I also need to start thinking about what I’m going to wear on Christmas Eve, as we’re heading to Park City for Christmas, so I need to pack ahead for all the Christmas parties and events. If you’re planning your holiday outfits now (which is a good idea because holiday clothes tend to sell out) and need some outfit inspiration or are looking to order a festive outfit for this year, here’s my guide for what to wear on Christmas Eve.
