What to Wear to a School Function – Closetful of Clothes

I love when you guys send in requests — I started working in women’s magazines because I wanted to help other women live their best lives, just like magazines had helped me in my teen and college-plus years, and that’s my goal with this blog. I really want to help you live your best, most stylish life (and show you how to do that without expending a ton of energy). So many of you have been asking me for ideas for what to wear to a school function, whether it’s back to school night, the fall festival, the annual school fundraiser or class parent coffees. The beginning and end of school are always so busy with school events. I know my calendar is filling up with all these school events for fall and it feels like summer just began. (And then there are the holiday parties and school plays and assemblies and everything in between.,,) I divided this post actually into two sections — one for fall and one for spring for that reason. Initially I had it geared towards just towards fall, but then it started popping up a lot in search recently with all the end of year school events during the spring (also known as Maycember), so I thought I’d add a spring section too. Right now, I’m obviously focused on back to school, which weirdly starts at such different times across the country. But regardless of whether you’re heading back in a week or in a month, once it starts, it feels like there’s something to do at one of the kid’s schools just about every day. So I have put together plenty of outfit ideas.

The beginning of the year is a first introduction often to new teachers and parents and the end brings all the celebrations, so you want to look your best for all these school events and activities. But it’s also the start (or end) of the school year, so like me, you’re probably running around like a crazy person and your wardrobe is probably the last thing on your mind… until you need something to wear. So I’m here to help you figure out what to wear to a school function.

Since back to school and end of the school year are stressful enough, I’m going to try to take out the what to wear to a school function worry. I put together outfits for every event and activity you’ll probably have at your kids school (but lmk if I missed any). Good luck juggling it all! Don’t worry as soon as this crazy is over, we have the holidays to get ready for and then it’s Maycember again! A mom’s work is never done, right?!
