I have a lot of leggings. Like a lot. It’s not because I workout a lot. I have made it my resolution to move my body regularly, but I am not a group exercise or gym person. I mostly do workout videos at home, run outside, or play tennis, none of which require an extensive leggings wardrobe. I am also not one of those people who wears leggings as pants a ton. If I’m going to shower and get ready for the day, I’ll get dressed. But the pandemic and working from home definitely made leggings a larger part of my wardrobe. I don’t always get up to workout before the kids, so I find myself throwing on leggings to do school drop off more frequently these days. Leggings are also generally pretty easy to clean and wear when running after your kids, so now that I have three messy, crazy littles, I see the utility in wearing pants that I can easily wipe off, toss in the laundry and chase after the kids in. Okay, so basically I’ve become a leggings convert in the past few years. The problems is I struggle with what to wear on top when wearing them. I do a similar thing with jeans, where I buy a bunch of pairs but don’t actually own that many tops, so I feel like I never have anything to wear. But I’ve started to correct that by investing in more work and going out tops to wear with jeans. But now I’m realizing I really need tops to wear with leggings, because old t-shirts and college sweatshirts aren’t doing the job and I don’t feel comfortable just walking around with a sports bra or tank on top. It’s also not that warm here to do that for most of the year.
I think a lot of us have a bunch of pairs of leggings (like who here owns 20 pairs of black leggings?) because we’re always searching for the perfect pair or finding one that a friend raved about that makes your butt look amazing or whatever it is. But if you’re like me, you may not have a bunch of tops to wear with leggings, so you end up wearing the same thing every day or throwing on some oversized top and feeling schlumpy. But leggings outfits can be cute to throw on for the gym, pick up/drop off, weekends, or to take you from yoga through your entire day with the right top. So I’ve rounded up my favorite tops to wear with leggings, no matter if you’re headed to the gym or brunch or running errands.
