I’m continuing my organizing obsession, as I try to finally get our life/house in order. It’s been a year since we moved and we have a lot more furniture, some house projects about 25 percent complete (lol – it never ends), and while I’m learning to love that our house will always be a work in process, I am starting to feel the itch to get things organized. Truth be told, my closet and cabinets and drawers housing clothes and accessories are a bit of a mess.So I’m slowly tackling all the different parts of closet organization — sunglasses, jewelry, purses, shoes, and now, bras. I know organizing your bras feels oddly specific but it’s actually one of the most important parts of your closet to organize IMO. I wouldn’t have said that a year ago, but I’m finding it hard to get dressed efficiently because I am always rifling through a pile of underwear and bras and slips and camis trying to find the right bra to go with a specific dress or shirt. We all know that the right bra can make or break your outfit so I really wanted to figure out the best ways to store your bras.
I did a lot of research looking to tips and ideas and products that could help with the undergarment organization, and I know I’m probably not alone in this so I thought I’d share the best ways to store your bras. Not only will organizing your bras make it easier to get dressed, but storing your bras properly helps maintain their shape and prolong their lifespan. Here are my top tips for the best way to store your bras:
Use a Bra Drawer Organizer: The best way to store bras is by using a dedicated drawer or organizer specifically designed for bras. These organizers have separate compartments, which prevent bras from getting tangled and help maintain their shape. If you don’t have a dedicated organizer, you can use small baskets or dividers in a regular drawer.
Hook the Clasps: Always fasten the hooks of your bras to prevent them from snagging on other clothing items or on your other delicates. This also helps maintain their shape and elasticity.
Stack Bras Neatly: When stacking bras in a drawer or organizer, place them one behind the other with the cups aligned. Avoid folding the cups or stuffing them inside each other. If you have padded or molded-cup bras, stack them with the cups inside one another to maintain their shape. Be gentle when stacking to avoid crushing the padding.
Rotate Your Bras: I am so bad a this but every bra expert will tell you to prevent overuse of certain bras, rotate them regularly. This ensures that all your bras get equal wear and tear.
Don’t Hang Them by the Straps: I know some people will say one of the best ways to store your bras is to hang them so they’re visible. But hanging bras by their straps can cause the straps to stretch over time. It’s better to fold and stack them in a drawer or use a hanger specifically designed for bras with curved edges to maintain the shape.
Avoid Overcrowding: Don’t overcrowd your bra storage area. Give each bra enough space to maintain its shape and avoid wrinkling or misshaping. This will also make it easier to find the ones you’re looking for.
Store Delicate Bras Separately: If you have delicate or lacy bras, consider storing them in a separate drawer or section to prevent damage from snagging on other fabrics or hooks.
Keep Your Storage Area Clean and Dry: Make sure your storage area is clean and dry to prevent moisture and odors from affecting your bras. Consider using scented sachets or cedar blocks to keep the area fresh.
Follow Care Instructions: Always follow the care instructions on the bra label when washing your bras. Some bras may require hand-washing or gentle machine washing, and proper care will help them maintain their quality.
And one of the best ways to store your bras is to invest in the right products to keep them organized and visible. Here are some of my favorite products to use to properly organize your bras:
