Frayed denim was by far and away the biggest street style trend at NYFW, and it’s still going strong. All the biggest style stars wore them at least once during the week, to varying degrees — from long fringe to subtle unfinished hems that looked like they were DIY’d. If you’re wondering how to wear frayed jeans, it’s actually an easy trend to take on. You can buy a pair already frayed or cut your own and just pull up the bottoms gently to fray.I love that it’s one of those trends that you don’t necessarily have to invest in. With that said, it’s not going anywhere, so don’t be afraid to buy a pair of frayed jeans.
The trick for how to wear frayed jeans is to pair them with the right shoes and tops. You want to go with a more cropped pair to show off the fray. I love cropped denim flares with a bit of fraying at the bottom or a wide leg pair that hits at the ankle with a bit of fraying. You can do a skinnier style but it feels a bit dated right now. Any shoe goes but I prefer a more polished ballet flat or ankle boot to offset the more casual fray. With that said, the right sneakers can look cute too. On top, anything goes — t-shirt, sweater, button-down, you name it. I prefer something a bit more polished again to offset the more casual, distressed denim like a crisp button-up, nice blouse, or tucked-in t-shirt.
