Potentially polarizing opinion, but I am not that into gender reveals. I think they’re really fun for the couple and you should celebrate the miracle that is a new baby in any way you want. And if that involves pink or blue smoke or a cake with gendered filling or popping a balloon, then go for it. Personally, I have had complicated pregnancies and as I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been scared to jinx the pregnancy by talking about it too much or sharing too much. We didn’t do a pregnancy announcement for a long time, and I wasn’t planning to do a gender reveal at all. It’s not that we’re waiting to find out, or that I’m hiding anything. I did want to wait to find out what we were having. We didn’t find out before having James, and it was a nice surprise, and I figured since we have one of each and had all their old stuff, it might be fun to wait and see. Andrew, however, did not want to wait. He kept asking about it at one of our doctor appointments, so I told our doctor she could just tell him, and so we’ve known for quite some time. Andrew was excited by the reveal and started telling everyone, so it’s definitely not a secret. But I’m honestly just hoping for a healthy baby and delivery, so I didn’t think to make some big announcement or gender reveal.
But I’ve been asked by so many of you so I thought I’d share a low-key gender reveal. So dun dun dun duh… drum roll please… We’re having a …. BOY!
Yep, we are adding another boy to our crew! We are thrilled to be adding another to our crew. James and Andrew are delighted, Charlotte still doesn’t know what’s about to hit her, and I’m just hoping for a healthy baby and complication-free delivery. I am starting to shop for some baby clothes though, so now that the gender reveal is out of the way, I’ll share some of the cute baby boy clothes I’ve been finding. While he’ll be wearing a lot of James’ handy-me-downs, no doubt, we for some reason are really short on baby boy clothes. I think it’s partly because we didn’t buy a lot in advance since we didn’t know what we were having and we also were lucky enough to get handy-me-downs from cousins that made it through one more baby but had to be retired after James, and then I had all these friends who had babies that I also gave a lot away. We also had James in the fall, and this baby will be born in the spring, so our seasons won’t completely match up, which I’m just realizing. Sigh. But the upside is that I get to start shopping for cute baby boy clothes, and adorable onesies once again and that’s starting to make this all feel real and I couldn’t be more happy.
