This is probably a massively unpopular opinion, but I like rainy days. I mean, I hated them when I lived in the city and had to go anywhere, and don’t love them when it rains on my plans in summer or if I have something I need to look nice for. And it’s totally a pain to figure out what to do with kids on rainy days sometimes. But I love the feeling of a rainy day. It gives us permission to be less polished, to stay inside, to cuddle up with a book/laptop/movie. I would much prefer to enjoy any rainy days from the comfort of my couch, but since I have children and a job and a dog, that is no longer an option when the weather is poopy, so I have had to figure out how to look cute in the rain.
So what is the secret for how to look cute in the rain? I find a mix of having the right gear — umbrellas, cute rain coats and rain boots — is half the battle. Then you can work around those key pieces to make an outfit that works in the rain and still looks presentable enough for whatever your day brings. I highly recommend investing in really nice waterproof shoes that you can wear to work or somewhere nice on truly rainy days when you don’t want to ruin your footwear. You also need to invest in a fabulous trench coat and another hooded rain coat. Then what you wear underneath isn’t so important because you have the right gear to keep it dry and look chic while you’re doing it.
Sadly, we can’t just stay inside in our sweats when it rains. So when you have to pull it together and brave the elements despite the risk of getting soaked/splashed/sprinkled on, here’s how to look cute in the rain.
