Okay so you guys seem to be loving this closet organizing series, so I’m going to continue with my next big accessory — sunglasses. I don’t know about you, but I feel like we always have a million pairs just thrown around everywhere, from my purse to closets to drawers to the car. We don’t have a great system for organizing them and as a result, I don’t wear half my sunglasses and can never find ones when I need them. I hate having anything disorganized tbh, so I’m really trying to get all my ducks in a row. But also practically speaking, I wear contacts and have super sensitive eyes, so I wear sunglasses even when it’s cloudy so not having them organized and easily findable is an issue. Plus, I read that French women always wear sunglasses to avoid wrinkles and it never left me. I’ll follow anything the tres chic women of France are doing. So I thought I’d put together a post on how to organize your sunglasses.
Actually, there isn’t a big trick for how to organize your sunglasses. The key is to figure out where you want to keep them — closet, drawer, downstairs in a mudroom or near your entrance, in your bag — and then to go from there. It’s also really key to invest in organizers to keep them protected and visible. Organizing sunglasses can help keep them easily accessible and in good condition in addition to making your life easier.
Here are my top tips for how to organize your sunglasses — plus, some inspo for ways to store them neatly:
Gather ALL Your Sunglasses: Start by collecting all your sunglasses in one place. This will give you a clear idea of how many you have and what types they are.
Toss Any Broken or Old Ones You No Longer Wear: Go through your sunglasses and decide which ones you want to keep and which ones you no longer need. If they’re broken, recycle them. You can donate or sell any that you don’t use.
Choose a Storage Method:
There are lots of different options for how to organize your sunglasses, so you have to choose the method that works best for you. The key is to ensure that your sunglasses are stored in a way that protects them from scratches, and breaking. Some of my favorite ideas for how to organize your sunglasses:
- Display Rack: A sunglass display rack or stand is a stylish way to showcase your sunglasses. There are many options available, from wall-mounted racks to tabletop stands.
- Drawer Dividers: You can use drawer dividers in a dresser or closet to create separate sections for each pair of sunglasses.
- Sunglass Case: Keep your sunglasses in their protective cases if they come with one. Label the cases for easy identification.
- Sunglass Drawers: These exist with little cubbies for each pair and are clear so you can see them.
- Wall Hooks: If you have a smaller collection, you can install wall hooks or pegs to hang your sunglasses. This can save space and make a decorative display.
- Sunglass Organizer Tray: A sunglass organizer tray with compartments can keep your sunglasses neatly separated. These trays are often made of fabric or clear plastic and can be placed in drawers or on shelves.
Categorize: This is an optional extra step but can be really helpful if you have a lot of pairs or are organizing for multiple people. Organize your sunglasses by categories such as brand, style, or purpose (e.g., casual, sports, formal).
