I wasn’t sure if I could do the whole polka dot thing. Honestly, I worried it was too cutesy for me, and I still can’t decide if I look like a dalmatian cupcake in this dress. But I like it, and rather than obsess over whether something fits my style or if I’ll love it in a year or whatever, I’ve started to go with the shopping approach of buying what I love, and it was love at first sight with this dress.
Maybe because the palette is muted, or could be the ruffles — I do have an obsession with ruffles these days. Ironically, this look is super girl, especially with the bow in the back of my kitten heels and the headband. I don’t usually think of myself as a girly dresser, but I don’t mind it here either, again I think the color palette helps, and maybe I’m just in denial that my true sartorial self is a girly girl at heart.
Polka dots are huge for spring, and while I appreciate a cute polka dot dress or top, I need to balance the cutesy factor. In this case, I chose to go with polka dots that make a statement, which this dress definitely does, and make it a more fashion-y moment. My other favorite way to style polka dots is to contrast the sweetness with something more urban or edgy like a leather jacket, ripped jeans, or rugged boots.
This dress is selling out fast, but I’ve also rounded up some of my favorite polka dot pieces at the bottom of this post as well.
On Me: Polka Dot Dress (also available in more sizes here); Heels; Headband; Purse
