July 1 really is a kick in the pants for me. In my mind, it means we’re fully in the middle of summer and time is a ticking away. With school getting out in middle of June and a big trip at the end of the month, I feel like I haven’t really gotten a leg up on my summer bucket list, or all the things I want to do before fall rolls around. I don’t even like saying the f word (fall – this is a family friendly place people) lest I jinx myself and it makes summer go by even faster than it is already. But to ensure I make the most of the heart of summer and work towards my larger goals, I wanted to set and share my July 2023 monthly goals.
I realized that we’re getting close to being halfway done with the year so I wanted to check back in on my New Year’s resolutions/yearly goals for 2023 before I mapped out my July 2023 monthly goals. I want to make sure I’m working towards the larger goals I have that I want to set for myself and do. It’s really hit me since my most recent birthday or since having three kids and getting older, that time is a ticking and I need to start doing the things I want to do and setting those intentions. So I also used this month’s goal setting to review and update some of my larger long term goals. I realized that what I would really love to do, I don’t allow myself to even say and instead distract myself almost with the things I think I’m capable of doing or should do based on where I’ve been. But you know what? I’m not getting any younger and I shouldn’t live a life of regret or not do the things that fill my heart. So I’m going to just say that I want to fix up and sell homes and properties, own a boutique and bed and breakfast at some point, and grow this blog and my socials – communicating with you all and sharing content and recommendations and advice is one of my favorite things to do. So there you go. Yes, writing a book or starting a consulting business would all make sense for me to do given my history, but as I think about where I will spend my precious extra time (of which there is barely any) those are the things that excite me and light me up, so why not, right?
To that end, here are my July 2023 monthly goals. Now hold me accountable and don’t let me get distracted by the pool, ice cream and lazy summer days calling all our names.
Plan Individual Dates with Each Kid: I’m realizing that I’m not connecting with my kids enough and since I raise them in a pack, they’re often not getting enough of me, just me. The littlest gets the most and I feel like sometimes I’m losing touch of James because he’s the most capable and independent. I recently did a 1:1 date with him and it was so nice to spend time with him. I feel like I’m constantly yelling at him and correcting him instead of giving him positive attention and when I do, it’s being interrupted by a sibling who needs me. But in the same vein, I think they each need their little pockets of mom time, so I’m going to start incorporating weekly 1:1 time with the bigs (Brooks gets this more because well, he’s home all the time and still a baby).
Put down my phone when with the kids: I’m so bad at this and struggling so hard with it, but I don’t want my kids to think the phone is more important than them and that I’m never really watching or listening. Help me stick to this and share your tips!
Book Countertops: I’m starting to worry if I don’t get this booked, we’re not going to do them because I’m going to start investing in other projects. I want to budget and plan for this as we really need to update our kitchen – it’ll transform our whole house.
Plan a Fun Birthday for Andrew: It’s his birthday at the end of the month and I want to do something really memorable and fun this year.
Go on a Few Family Golf Dates: The bigs are picking up golf, especially James, and I want to make a point to go on a few family golf outings.
Plan Two Date Nights: Whether with couples or just ourselves we need to start getting out without the kids again.
Start Strength Training: My exercise has gotten lazy and squeezed in where it can, which is fine at this stage of life, but I want to start toning up and being more efficient and I think strength training will really help. What should I do that’s easy and quick?
Book Christmas Break: Seems crazy to include this with my July 2023 monthly goals but Park City books up like crazy, so here we are. I want to get a heads start on booking our Christmas vacation while the prices aren’t ridiculous and the ski lessons and tickets are still available.
Finalize August Plans: There’s not much in the way of camp in August, so I want to finalize all our vacation and staycation plans!
Upgrade Website: I need to invest in a better website so that I can really grow and scale this blog. Any tips for a designer and SEO upgrade?
Grow Instagram to 15K: Help me grow my Instagram and achieve one of my July 2023 monthly goals please. I have a goal to get to 25K by end of year, and I really want to build on momentum I’ve been seeing to get to 15K this month. I know I can do it with your help. I invest so much there, I’m hoping I can create a real community and audience to make it make sense since every minute I invest there takes away from somewhere else.
Host a BBQ: I want to try a dinner party but since cooking is not my specialty and kitchen still needs some work, I’m going to focus on the easiest way to cook – make Andrew do it all on the bbq.
Host More Family Playdates: I love hosting and want to do it more so that the kids can play and we can socialize.
Photograph House Progress and Share: I’m making one of my July 2023 monthly goals a step towards my bigger wish of creating and doing more interiors work and projects. Sharing what I’m working on around the house is a good step in that direction.
Grow TikTok: I’m at a stalemate here. I really need to invest more time into TikTok and jumping on the trends here and growing and having more fun there frankly. Let me know what you would want to see. More home? Funny stuff? Mom life? Outfits?
And that’s it for my July 2023 monthly goals. Whew. I’m exhausted alreeady!
