I took a bit of a break from working on home projects before the holidays. I felt overwhelmed and with work and everything else, I just didn’t have time to focus on it and nothing was sparking joy. Rather than force myself to just pick a wallpaper or just finish a room, I wanted to wait until I saw something that inspired me and I knew was right. In a perfect world, we’d have a method to our madness. Finish the first floor main living spaces, then downstairs bathrooms, then the kids spaces, then ours, etc. But I’m learning that houses take time. No room will probably feel complete because I like to continuously tweak and add unique found pieces etc. Oh, and also it’s expensive to decorate and furnish a home on top of needed maintenance and renovations. So we’re going bit by bit and even though I love to finish things and cross them off my list, I think this method will work best for us. I really don’t want to just buy things to fill a space. I want to make each space to be filled with things I really love or stay empty. It wasn’t practical to start, but now I’m glad I waited for the right kitchen table and chairs and for our custom family room sectional. To that point, I am not quite ready to tackle some of the bigger projects we have on the docket. We really just don’t have the bandwidth and I haven’t decided quite what I want to do, so I’m tackling a few smaller house projects in the meantime, starting with some of the kids’ spaces. They grow so fast, so I want to get some of the spaces like the nursery done before Brooks is a toddler (cry) or before James is a really big boy and doesn’t like the direction I choose for his room lol. I’m starting with one of the smallest spaces to make an impact — the kids bathroom. They share a cute little bathroom that was renovated by the previous owners and I don’t mind but I want to add some color and probably wallpaper to make it pop so I’ve been perusing Pinterest and the gram for kids’ bathroom ideas.
The previous owners went with greys in the bathroom but with a dark blue vanity that I actually like. Since it was recently renovated and I think it’s working, I want to lean into what’s there and just add a little pop. It’ll probably eventually be the bathroom the boys share, so I think I’m going to go with the navy theme in there. That way, it won’t scream boy so Charlotte can also use depending on how we switch things around, but because it’s in the hallway when you get up the stairs, it’ll also make a little statement. I may even bring back the Katie Ridder sailboat print roman shade to really make this the cutest bathroom ever even though that will certainly make it a bit less gender neutral. Here are the kids’ bathroom ideas that are inspiring me. Let me know which direction you think I should go.
