Okay, so I dropped the ball on September goals. We were way too much in limbo and survival goals to make anything other than surviving a goal last month. But we have moved from our rental and are now living in our new home at long last. I have to say, as painful as this entire process has been, it was so worth the wait. We are so happy here and it’s so nice to have the right space for our family to bond and grow. We have been trying to find our perfect home base for years and it’s taken a few moves and lots of patience but I’m really excited about where we’ll be raising our kids for the next few years at least (you know I get antsy once I finish a project, but shhh don’t tell Andrew). Now that we’re somewhat settled and not living out of boxes, I’m excited to start getting my life together again and getting us organized and back on track, so I am going to return to sharing my month goals, starting with my October 2022 monthly goals.
This month most of my goals center on getting our home and lives more organized as well as a few personal ones. My plate is very full moving in and adjusting to life and taking a girls weekend away (not the best timing, but much needed) that I just can’t swing any big ambitious projects (yes, the book project will have to wait again). It’s back to unpacking boxes but first, here are my October 2022 monthly goals.
Get Kitchen Refresh Scheduled: I want to do a light refresh to the kitchen. It doesn’t need a gut reno at this time and is updated, but just not to our taste. I want to paint the cabinets a brighter shade of white, swap in new countertops and hopefully, a new backsplash and put in new lighting. The kitchen is really the heart of the home in our house, which I love, and these smaller upgrades will make a huge difference, so I’m hoping we can do them sooner rather than later. I also based the table, chairs, counter stools, etc. I ordered for the kitchen on what it will look like, so I really want the new countertops and paint done so it looks like it all belongs.
Get Kids’ Rooms Set Up: The kids rooms need beds and dressers and window treatments. I’d also like to wallpaper and do some other things, so I’m hoping to get that all mapped out and scheduled and ordered so that the kids can feel settled in their new spaces.
Organize Closet: I finally have a respectable walk-in closet and it’s time to get this baby organized. I want to do a huge closet clean-out and only fill it with things I love. I really want this to be a good opportunity to pare down my closet and make it a place that I feel overjoyed to enter, rather than feeling overwhelmed. I’m also setting up my office right off my closet, so I want it all to feel cohesive and look nice.
Organize Kitchen: I really want our kitchen to make sense and work for us. The dream would be to hire a professional organizer, but I want to focus on furnishing the house first, so in the meantime, I’m going to do some studying and figure out the best ways to organize all our dishware, cooking supplies, food etc. and then do a Container Store (or Target?) run and start getting us all squared away.
Order Furniture for the Family Room: I haven’t had the head space to think about our living room or dining room, which we’ll probably make more formal spaces, but I want to get our family room set up, as it’s just off the kitchen and the space where we’re really going to hang out as a family. I don’t think we need much in there, but I want to get a couch or section ordered and ottoman and maybe some storage solutions for the kids toys that will inevitably end up in there.
Spend Less Time on the Phone: I feel like my kids are starting to feel like I care more about my phone than them. I want to put down my phone in the mornings before school, when they first get home from school for 15 minutes, and then from the time I come home from or wrap up work until bed. I also want to ditch the phone on weekends when we’re hanging out and only use it during naps and after bedtime. It’s a lot for someone whose job is largely on her phone and is frankly addicted to it, but I know how necessary and important it is for both me and my family. Wish me luck!
Go on Vacation and Not Feel Bad About It: I am going on my first ever girls’ trip since having kids and leaving my babies for the first time in a couple weeks to go to the Bahamas with friends. Andrew will be holding down the fort and have plenty of support from our nanny and his parents but I’m freaking out. I have never left our kids for this long, and especially since the pandemic. I am going to be pumping too so that’s whole other layer to worry about. I am excited to go and forcing myself to go in some ways because I know I need a break and a chance to have fun. I’ve been juggling the kids, work, side hustle and so much more for a really long time and I just know how worn down I am. This will be so good for me, so I really want to make the most of it and not spend the entire time missing the kids and feeling guilty. Hopefully, my friends (and a few cocktails!) can help with that.
Get More Intense During My Workouts: I have been half assing workouts for awhile now, as I’m just exhausted and haven’t been ready to get back in shape. But I really want to get in better shape and to have more energy and push myself more during the time I do block out for workouts to get the most out of them. I’m going to invest in a treadmill for our basement and starting adding in some Sculpt Society workouts to compliment my Tracy Anderson videos and it’s helping but frankly, I haven’t found a workout (other than tennis) that I truly love. Either way, going harder will be a good October 2022 monthly goal for me.
Plan Out Our Christmas Vacation: We are heading to Park City to ski for Christmas/New Years. I already bought a bunch of ski passes and lessons because they book up fast, but I want to finish planning the rest of the trip so we have some fun things to look forward to while we’re there. I’m excited to ski again and for James and Charlotte to spend more time on the slopes as well as to introduce Brooks to our favorite place.
Get Kids’ Halloween Costumes Squared Away: Halloween will be here before we know it and I need to get on the kids’ costumes. What should we dress Brooks and Dakota up as this year?
Go Apple Picking: We didn’t get to do this in September, so I’m hoping to take the kids in October. Maybe we’ll do pumpkin picking and hay rides instead…
Take Better Care of My Nails: This is such a small thing and why I’m making it a goal when I’m spending so much time unboxing and working on the house is kind of silly, but I feel so much better when I do my nails so I’m going to try to squeeze in regular manis.
Program More Regular TikTok Content: Okay, I know I said I was going to go easy on the goals, and then here I am making professional goals to add onto my day and side jobs, but I want to post to TikTok at least three times a week. That feels manageable, right?
Hit 10K on Instagram: Okay, I’m being super ambitious now, but I’m so close and it’s bugging me for some reason, even though I swore I wouldn’t beg for followers. But here we are, so help me get to 10K by Thanksgiving pleaseeee and follow me and share with everyone you know (sorry for the shameless plug but I need your help!).
Eat at Home More: I am going to start taking full advantage of our kitchen and eating at home more. I love salads, and they always seem to taste better when someone else makes it, but I don’t care. I’m going to start making them myself as well as food for my family. Send your receipts my way!
Spend more time having fun with kids: With all the stress of moving multiple times, switching schools and towns and returning to work post-baby, plus, all the to-dos now that we’re moved in, I’ve had little time to spend with the kiddos, and I know they’re craving connection and play. I really want to slow down and spend more time connecting and listening and just hanging out with them without doing something or ten other things at the same time.
Sign kids up for swim lessons: I really want my kids to be strong swimmers so we’re going back to swim school now that we’re settled.
Find places to play tennis: I want to pick my tennis lessons and games back up and hoping to find a place to play temporarily until we join a club.
Sign kids up for ski and skating lessons: I can’t believe I’m already thinking about winter but here we are….
Make design plans for dining room and living room: Although these will be the last rooms we decorate, I want to start making plans for them so we can start to feel settled and hopefully, entertain by the holidays. Luckily, I’m partnering with my fabulous designer friend on this project so it’s going to be great.
Host our first friends and playdates: I love hosting and now we finally have a great space to do just that. As soon as we get a bit more furniture in place, I’d love to start hosting more.
