The funny thing about spring is you wait forever for it to come and then when it does, it’s such a whirlwind that it feels like it’s over before you even know it. Weather-wise, at least for the East Coast where we live, it tends to be pretty cold for most of spring. By the time it warms up, it’s basically summer, so I don’t usually invest in too many spring clothes because I don’t really get to wear them. But I have been buried under sweaters and coats for so long that this year, I couldn’t help but buy some spring-y pieces, like this plaid ruffle blouse.
I had been eyeing this Ulla Johnson plaid ruffle blouse forever. I love the oversized ruffles (I love me a statement blouse) and the billowy fit (also love me a breezy (i.e., not too tight) top). I hesitated on buying it because it’s been so frigid out that I thought it’d be even more depressing to stare at it in my closet every day as I reached for another sweater. But then it sold out, and I found myself obsessively searching the interweb for it. So when I finally found it restocked in my size, I snagged it right away. Cold be damned.
I’m not going to lie, I’m freezing in these pics, which we took during a recent weekend upstate. But I feel like I’ll be able to start wearing this outfit because the temps are finally climbing above 50. And I plan to wear this all. the time. — it’s really perfect versatile spring outfit.
Typically, I pair a more billowy blouse with a more fitted bottom, but I’ve been loving these cropped wide-leg jeans recently and I am actually loving the portion play. I would totally swap the heels for a flat sandal or sneakers to go to brunch or a kid’s birthday party, but the heels make this outfit work for my office or for a date night even.
While I love this plaid ruffle blouse outfit, I am also excited to wear this top with white jeans, denim cutoffs and a white mini skirt (when it finally does get warmer), and more fitted jeans and killer heels for a night out with the girls or my guy.
I sized up a bit on the top because I have a long torso, so even with high-waisted jeans, tops like this tend to be cropped on me (and as I mentioned, I don’t love to wear super fitted things). But it runs fairly true to size though if you have a long torso like me, I would size up.
Shared my outfit deets below — and also more spring pieces I’m loving right now.
