We’re taking a phases approach to decorating this house. What I mean is that I’m accepting that this house is going to take time to complete and will be an ongoing work in progress. When we moved in, we had hardly any furniture and a lot of the spaces felt dated or not to our taste. But the good news is everything was/is in really good condition. There’s a lot we’d love to do with the house, but I also want to live with the house for awhile before we do major changes. We know that we’ll do some gut renos etc. down the road, but we decided to start by getting some basic furnishings in and doing some facelifts to some of the spaces to make them more to our taste and liveable for me at least. These facelifts (think: paint, new fixtures etc.) will tied us over until we’re ready to make some bigger changes to spaces. It also is helping out home feel like a home so rooms don’t just sit empty. Our primary bedroom has actually been sitting pretty empty, but we needed a bed and I’m realizing we need a few more pieces, so we’re going to start phase one of our primary bedroom and then will eventually probably make some larger changes. Eventually I’d like to potentially wallpaper the space and get some custom upholstery in here. Maybe even a new bed (I don’t know if I love the one we bought in a rush to have somewhere to sleep). But to start, we’re going to just add in some pieces to help it feel more complete and functional, so I wanted to share our primary bedroom ideas for phase one.
I went with a blue upholstered bed, after being inspired by some of my favorite tastemakers. I think I like it, but I’m not sold. I figured we could always reupholster it but I don’t know. I think with the right paper or paint and chairs etc, it could work. I found some white nightstands to sit by its side after having nowhere to put my water and glasses for months, but now, I feel like we really need a dresser, mostly so that the desk holding up our TV can go back to being a desk. I also hate how empty the space feels. Eventually I want to add in some chairs and create a sitting area, but in the meantime, I think a dresser and some bedding and a new light fixture will really spruce the place up. Check out my primary bedroom ideas and let me know what you think. Also if anyone has a wallpaper they love for primary bedrooms, send ideas my way.
