Everyone has pretty much decided that it’s fall, even though we technically have weeks left of summer and it’s still 85 degrees here. But fine, I’m going to give in — at least when it comes to my wardrobe. I’ve decided to wear all my super summery dresses this week, because it feels like it’s time to start whipping out the fall clothes after that. The hardest part about dressing for this time of year though is that it’s not quite full fall and the weather certainly isn’t fall, but breezy sundresses and sandals start to feel out of place. At the same time, 85 degrees is a little too hot (at least by my standards) to be whipping out the cords, sweaters, and cashmere. That’s why I love summer to fall dresses and scoop them up whenever I find a good one. They’re the perfect transition piece to take you from the warm-weather season into cooler temps.
The trick to finding the perfect summer to fall dresses is to find the right print or color. Go for a pattern that’s a little darker and moodier in autumnal hues. I love fall florals personally, Or choose a solid dress in a rich jewel tone or timeless neutral. The trick is to choose a light enough fabric that won’t have you sweating to death but still will feel appropriate as the weather turns. I love cotton and chiffons, and save the cashmere and wool for cooler days. Also choose the right silhouette — avoid turtlenecks unless it’s sleeveless so you can wear it while the weather still feels very much like summer. These summer to fall dresses are the perfect way to transition your wardrobe from summer to fall.
