While I don’t subscribe to seasonal rules, there are some fabrics that just belong to certain times of years. Case in point: eyelet. Eyelet is a quintessential cornerstone fabric of summer that just doesn’t feel right any other time of year. You really can’t be wearing an eyelet dress or top in the middle of winter. Sorry, it just doesn’t work. It’s just like linen. So milk it up in the spring and summertime when the delicate fabric feels right and looks so pretty on everything from dresses to skirts to tops to even shoes. The good news is there aren’t too many tricks to keep in mind for how to wear eyelet. The pretty fabric is really versatile and easy to pull off.
The most important tip for how to wear eyelet in summer is to keep in mind that eyelet can be see-through so you may need a cami or slip or nude undergarment to make it work if it’s not lined. From there, there aren’t too many rules. You can play with contrasts and pair a delicate eyelet top with jeans. Or you can lean into the feminine vibe and keep everything soft and sweet. White eyelet is so pretty in summer and gives you that French girl style, but black eyelet is so chic and adds a touch of edge. You can easily dress it up or down with the right accessories and footwear, so eyelet works for most any occasion but it’s more of an airy fabric, so skip the eyelet sundress for fancier affairs.
Here are some of my favorite ideas for how to wear eyelet.
