While I love a fun party dress, the thing with holiday parties is you usually see the same people at them and with all the pretty decorations, every one is basically a family photo opp, so outfit repeating gets a little tricky. So this year, rather than buying a super festive dress that screams “Christmas”, I decided to go with a dress that would work just as well for the rest of winter. This velvet holiday dress is the perfect answer. Velvet is so luxe that it’s perfect for a party and unlike lace, it’s heavy enough to keep you warm at the office or a winter wedding. But unlike sequins, it’s not too over the top for the office or drinks with friends, especially in this rich navy hue. The ruffles make it feel more fun, and I love the roomy fit, which is perfect for disguising all the holiday cookies I’ve been housing.
I love how this velvet holiday dress is roomy too so you don’t have to worry about how much you eat over the holidays. But it can still be dressed up. I would even wear this velvet holiday dress for a black tie or fancier cocktail party with dressy shoes and a clutch and some souped-up jewels. I also love the navy blue hue. It’s a fresh alternative to black but still feels just as versatile and luxe and fancy. But it’s not quite as one-note holiday as a red or green velvet if that makes sense.
