I don’t know about you guys, but I’m feeling burnt out and unmotivated, and feeling especially bad about that considering we’re not even a whole month into 2023. If you’re feeling this way too, know that you’re not alone. I’m seeing people post about burn out nonstop on Insta and TikTok and I can totally relate. I feel like my friends and I are just sending each other burnt out mom memes on repeat these days. I’ve talked about this before, but I think it’s for a number of reasons: going from being home all the time during Covid to going a million miles per hour with a million things all at once, the start of a new fiscal year and an impending recession making work all the more pressure-filled and busy, nonstop illnesses keeping kids out of school and forcing parents to get behind at work, the come down after a global pandemic, nonstop stress from economy/world events/life/inflation/you name it, and I don’t know, just being a parent of little kids and trying to hold down a career, marriage, house and all the things. Bottom line: It’s shocking we haven’t all melted down earlier, but it’s not making it any easier, especially since melting down or checking out or resting up aren’t really in the cards when you are a parent and have a full-time job and other obligations. I also hate winter, especially January and February, when it’s cold and dark and I just don’t want to leave the house or get dressed. I actually miss not having to leave the house during the pandemic and even though I used to love getting dressed for work, I know resent it, which is probably in part due to my commute and hating to leave my little ones (which is its own thing). But get dressed I must because wearing pajamas to work isn’t an option (although it is NYC so…), and the upside is I can bring you what I wore the fourth week of January 2023, aka lots of mild winter outfit ideas.
I say mild winter because the weather hasn’t been bad here (hardly snowed and it’s usually in the 30s or 40s, which I still dislike but isn’t like -10), so I haven’t had to worry about dressing for slushy city streets or country snowstorms. Hopefully, you’re finding more motivation to get dressed than me or maybe you’re focused on packing for a beach vacation or ski trip — the best way to get through winter IMO. Since we’re not going anywhere for a few more weeks, here’s what I wore the fourth week of January 2023.
