Having grown up in the midwest, I have a special space in my heart for lake houses. As much as I love the beach (and I do!), I love escaping into nature. We loved getting away to the lake house for weekends in the summer and spending the days canoeing, kayaking, fly fishing, sailing and swimming to the dock. It’s the perfect escape for when you just want to chill and not run into anyone you know. It’s also great for inviting friends up and for family reunions. Everyone can just relax, spend the days having fun on the lake, and the evenings barbecuing, making s’mores, and drinking on the dock. Of course, even though there is little pressure to dress up and be seen, I still like to plan what to wear for a summer weekend at the lake. Lots of pictures are taken, and let’s face it, anytime we’re going away for a weekend means I’m packing and picking out outfits.
The beauty of the lake is the attire is as laid-back and effortless as the surrounding nature. So I don’t stress about what to wear for a summer weekend at the lake.I usually pack cutoff shorts, tees, flip flops, and easy dresses for summer weekends at the lake. Nothing too fancy or complicated – basically I focus on packing things I can throw on over a swimsuit. My favorite is usually long caftans and loose maxi dresses that can double as coverups and be thrown on quickly when making dinner.
If you’re heading into nature this summer, and trying to figure out what to wear for a summer weekend at the lake, I’ve shared my go-to packing list below. I also included links to my breezy dress — the perfect thing to throw on after swimming in the lake, for a casual bbq, or for a trip into town to get some ice cream.

Espadrilles (if entertaining, though I usually go barefoot)
