It feels like the season where lots of baptisms are happening. I’m not sure why they tend to happen in spring, but it seems like a perfect time for a celebration of this nature and to host a little post-ceremony celebration. When figuring out what to wear to a baptism, whether for your own child or as a god parent, family member or guest, I always recommend erring on the side of conservative dress. Most baptisms occur in churches where it feels more appropriate to be a bit more covered up. I realize this may be old-fashioned, but I think a slightly longer dress or skirt, either midi or maxi length, or if you’re going short, at least to the knee feels most appropriate for the context. Pants work too although a pants suit or dressy pants and jacket are most appropriate for the occasion. I love pretty pastels and florals for a springtime baptism — they feel hopeful and seasonally appropriate — while in the fall and winter months, you can go with richer hues and prints. White isn’t out of the question though I often reserve white and ivory for the mom of the child. Of course it’s not their wedding, but this is my preference.
