I am continuing my mission to help you dress for the life you want to lead, and rolling out more dressing guides. I don’t know about you, but I find the most mundane tasks — school drop off/pick up, school events, running errands, doctor’s appointments — to be the hardest to dress for. I think it’s because for work, there’s generally a uniform and dress code you know you have to abide by that helps guide you. For working out, you know what you have to wear. You can wear cuter versions and it’s not like you’re never on the hunt for cute workout tops or chic workwear, but you generally know what you’re looking for and what the uniform is. And uniform dressing is easy. But for things like running your kids to school and activities or volunteering at school or going to the doctor, there’s really no dress code and what you wear can widely vary. You could go in sweats, leggings, jeans, a dress. That sort of anything goes range stresses me out. I know it does for you too, because these dressing guides have been really popular on my Instagram and I’ve been getting lots of requests for more occasions to dress for. What to wear to a doctor’s appointment has been one of my most popular IG posts and a top request, so I thought I’d share some ideas.
Let me start by saying that you really can wear anything to the doctor and they don’t care. They see it all, they are stuck in scrubs most of the time, and when you’re dealing with people’s health, what they wear is your last thought (I imagine but Idk, maybe my doctor is judging me lol). And half the time they only see you in that paper sheet dress thing anyway so who really cares. The bottom line is that you don’t need to stress over it and you should feel totally comfortable showing up in whatever you want. But if you’re like me and change a million times for something like this, I’ve come up with some ideas for what to wear to a doctor’s appointment. Plus, in my experience, you always run into people you know in the doctor’s office waiting room, because it’s not already nerve-wracking and awkward enough.
My advice is to wear something that has sleeves you can push up for any vaccines/shots. If you’re going to be changing into one of those paper gowns, go with clothes that can easily be taken off and on and underwear without holes (because yes, I sometimes wear underwear with holes because that’s where I am in life and I always cringe if I do it on doctor visit days). It’s cold in doctor’s offices so I always like to layer and have a cardigan and socks I can keep on while I’m waiting in the paper gown for the doctor. Other than that, wear whatever makes sense for your day. But to make it as least stressful as possible, here are some ideas for what to wear to a doctor’s appointment.
