It’s getting frigid out, and I swore I would only wear pants and sweaters from now on, but every morning, I still find myself throwing on a dress for work. Tights are a pain and don’t do much to keep your legs warm, but dresses are a much easier way to look put together for work so I continue to freeze my ass off because fashun. I have a complicated relationship with florals, and I actually find that I prefer to wear them in the fall and winter when it’s less expected and feels less sweet, especially when teamed with cozy knits, boots, and layers that balance out the sweetness. This winter floral dress, however, didn’t really need any balancing. The color palette makes it more subtle and perfect for winter, but I could see myself pairing it with sandals come spring. I love how the sleeves feel slightly ’80s/slightly victorian but are balanced out by the short hemline and flirty silhouette. I wore them with black booties to work and then slid into heels for a party I had afterward, but I may try them with my over-the-knee boots when it gets colder, and maybe even over a pair of pants.
I like to get as much use out of my purchases as possible, so I thought I’d share with you some day to night styling ideas for this winter floral dress. When buying something, I like to think of different ways and occasions I can where it for, so that I know I will get my cost per wear in. I don’t like to buy anything that I wear once and then just sits in my closet. And because I do love dresses and how easy they are to just throw on and it’s harder to have a “fat day” (you know, when you feel gross and fat regardless of the reality in the mirror) in a dress whereas jeans can ruin you on those days. Anywho, I love to find creative ways to style my dresses to really get the most out of them, and dressing them up and down to go from the office to an event or dinner is my favorite way to stretch my dress wardrobe. Here’s how I’m stying this winter floral dress from day to night.
