So here we are in the home stretch of summer and a lot has happened this summer. It hasn’t been the relaxing family-centered slow down I had hoped. Things didn’t go that smoothly actually. There have been a lot of ups and downs and challenges the last couple months and I have found I’m not really the mom and just person I had hoped to be this summer. I really wanted to savor these few months with the kids home. I didn’t want to yell. I wanted to do more swimming and playing with them. But I have had a lot of challenges, both personal and professional to navigate and life has gotten busier than ever in both those arenas. It’s been a lot more stress than I had thought and more curve balls, and my anxiety has gotten the best of me at times. I have found myself yelling and losing my patience or being too busy at work to play or listen to my kids. It hasn’t been all bad. We’ve had a lot of special moments and bonding and fun things and highs for sure. But I want to go into my August 2023 monthly goals with an eye towards getting back on track to the summer I want to cherish. With that said, I am learning that sometimes you just have to go with what life throws at you and do the best you can. Does that make sense?
Anyway, I do have a lot I want to start accomplishing. But to kick off my August 2023 monthly goals, I really just want to focus on a few things and leave time for play and joy and relaxation. I am feeling pretty burnt out and I want to start the fall on a high note, so I’m taking some time off this month too.
Here are my August 2023 monthly goals.
Find a better rhythm with work and family: I’m finding the balance of work and family and relaxation harder than ever and I know it’s making me really stressed and irritable. I want to get things back on track here and while it’ll always be a bit of a blend, I want to focus a bit more on the kids and enjoying the last of summer in August, which means that I’m not going to be pubbing as much on here, which is also hard since September is a big month to prep for.
Batch Content: I know I need to get better about planning out and batching my social content so that it’s easier to spend time with the kids off my phone and not have it consume my days. To that end, I’m going to plan each week a list of 7-10 posts to create and just do it.
Eat Better: I’ve gotten in a bad habit of eating cereal or chips or crumbs off the kids plate and not really sitting down for nutritious meals. I really want to get better on this front and take better care of myself and get the energy I need.
Wake Up Before the Kids: I wanted to relax and do less of this in summer, but I need the extra time to get work done so I can enjoy my days with the kids more.
Not Work During Vacations: I want to take some time off during our vacations to just have fun and enjoy the fam. It’s hard because I also need to capture content, but I want to find a way to get some content and then wait to edit it perhaps until the way home or something.
Schedule Countertops: It’s finally going to happen people, New countertops here we come.
Book Christmas Vacation: IT’s time for us to get our Christmas trip all squared away and get something to look forward to.
Get Kid’ Fall Activities Set Up: I can’t believe we’re already talking fall and activities, but I really want to get the kids in a good spot for their activities and make sure we’re not overbooked but we have our fall schedule in place.
Prep to Launch Substack in Fall: If I were going to do a Substack newsletter, what would you want it to include? Tell me!
Grow Instagram to 20K: I have a huge goal to get to by the end of the month. I don’t want to be that person, but I really want to be able to focus more on my blog and content creation on Instagram and even TikTok and in order to do that, I need to scale my business a bit more for it to make sense to devote all this time to it. So I’m throwing this out there because well, I’d love your help and I need to hold myself accountable. I’m going to try posting more and being more thoughtful with what I post with an eye toward creating useful content that offers service.
Post to TikTok Twice a Day: I need to get better at posting to TikTok and being more intentional there. I will probably need to wait for fall to really get into it, but I’d love any suggestions for what you’d like to see from me there or what you’re loving on TikTok right now.
Work on Blog SEO: My blog took a huge traffic hit and I’m still trying to figure out the issue, but I think I need some profesh help and I’d love to get that squared away this month.
Work on Key Pieces for the House: There are a few key pieces I want to get squared away for the house this summer so like this month, so here they are for my August 2023 monthly goals:
-Plant trees along edge of property
-Get measurements and install countertops
-Charlotte’s Window Treatments
-Work on Boys’ Room/Nursery Scheme
-Desk and Side Tables for Living Room
Take Mornings and Evenings with the Kids to focus on kids: Get the rest of the work done during the day/after or don’t get it done. Enjoy this fleeting end of summer with them and not stressed about getting them to bed so I can work.
Learn to Make a Few Things in the Air Fryer: I started to cook guys (well heat up things from Trader Joe’s) and we’re having fun and we just got a new air fryer, so send me recipes to make!
Plan a Fun Celebration for Charlotte’s Birthday: My baby is turning four (tears) and I want to do something special for her.
Check a Few More Things off the Summer Bucket List: Play family golf round, visit Legoland, clean out closets, hit up the beach a couple more times and explore nearby towns.
And that’s it for my August 2023 monthly goals. What’s on your list this month?
