One perk of my job as a magazine editor is getting to interview the top dermatologists and doctors in their fields and to try out tons of different brands’ products. This has been especially beneficial when trying to determine the best non-toxic sunscreen for kids. I don’t know if you have felt the same way, but I’ve found choosing sunscreen for kids (and me!) to be increasingly overwhelming. It feels like every other week a new study comes out saying this ingredient is bad, this kind causes cancer, this type is bad for you but the other types are ineffective. Finding a sunscreen that will do its jb and really protect your kids from the sun and won’t harm them has become an overwhelming task. And that’s not even factoring in finding one that they will allow you to put on and that goes on easily, doesn’t irritate their skin or leave them looking like ghosts. Honestly, it shouldn’t be this hard, and I don’t know that there is a perfect answer to the best non-toxic sunscreen for kids. But I have found several that we really like and have worked well for our kids, who have very fair skin and very sensitive skin (including eczema).
I know that a lot of you are probably struggling to find the best non-toxic sunscreen for kids and weed through all the options and branding and promises and research and news stories. So I thought I’d round up the ones we’ve tried and that have been recommended to me and have been doctor-approved. Now, I will say that you need to do what’s best for your family and consult your own doctor if you’re not sure. These are just want I’ve found to be the best of what’s out there right now.
