We are finally settling into our new home, and trying to get the kitchen and family room — the heart of the home, where we spend the most time and where you enter off the driveway — squared away first. I know all-white kitchens are starting to fall out of favor, but I love a crisp classic white with brass details and grey marble (or quartz for less maintenance) countertops. That’s what we did with our last kitchen and I still love it. I know a lot of you are looking to freshen up your kitchen without doing a total gut reno as well, so I thought I’d share our eat in kitchen ideas.
Our current kitchen is actually in pretty good shape and we’re not ready to live through a gut renovation at the moment — and have many other projects to prioritize — so we are just going to do a light refresh to make it fit our taste more. The walls are currently beige-y with cream countertops and a brownish granite countertops and beige tiled backsplash. It’s a lot of… well, beige. And I’m more of a white girl myself. I’d probably paint everything white if left to my own devices. We are going to follow a similar design for this refresh as our last kitchen that we gut renovated, using the same countertops, which we loved and held up so well. The cabinets in our current kitchen are really nice so we are just going to paint them a brighter white (likely Chantilly Lace or Simpy White), trade in the current tiles for a white subway tile backsplash (debating doing a slight grey here or herringbone pattern to mix it up though the countertops will add dimension), and swap out the pendants over the island for these white and brass ones by Mark D. Sikes.
I shared the breakfast room inspiration with you already, but we have really an eat-in open kitchen, and we’re using these Serena and Lily chairs with this white tulip table and these counter stools. Then we’ll add something along the wall that will offer storage and a place to throw keys after coming in from the garage or mud room. For now, we’re keeping our appliances though I know that slowly we’ll need to replace some of them like the ovens and dishwasher. But for the time being, they’re working so we’re keeping them.
When it comes to our kitchen design, I really loved this kitchen that Samantha Varvel shared and am using it for inspo along with some other kitchens I’ve seen recently and loved. I Here are our eat in kitchen ideas (and here’s our breakfast room inspo to give you a better idea of what we’re going for) – let me know what you think.
