We’re finally getting to furnishing our living room after almost a year in our house. It’s probably my favorite room in the house and the one that is used the absolute least. That’s in part because it’s not really furnished and partly because we have a family room that opens to the kitchen and is usually the family hang spot. I wasn’t in a rush to design the living room because we needed to start by focusing on just basic furnishing to function like a kitchen table and family room seating and then a lot of not fun projects to get the house in working order. But now a year into living here and I’d love to be able to use our living room and to entertain, and I think having that room done is key to feeling comfortable having people over lol. I’ve been working on our living room design for awhile and going back and forth, which is also why it remains unfurnished. But my friend who is an incredible interior designer, helped me figure out some of the key elements I was going back and forth on — couch, prints and how to tie in the blue Bunny Williams couch I bought on a whim, so now I feel like we have a plan and I’m excited about it. So I thought I would share with you our living room plans, which is full of Grandmillennial living room ideas.
I am trying to incorporate a mix of some of the pieces we have with some newer items. I hate using the term grandmillenial but we’re definitely leaning toward a traditional design but with some more modern touches. So you’ll see our living room plans have a lot of Grandmillennial living room ideas. I bought the Bunny Williams couch, which is in a blue suede, on a bit of a whim after another decorator friend said she saw it at the showroom on sale. I ordered it online and it arrived a couple days later. I love the shape of the couch and have always loved it but I wasn’t so sure about the blue suede. But it fits perfectly under the window in our room, and I think we’ve found a way to to make it work thanks to my friend Anna’s suggestions. Since this isn’t our forever home, I went with an ivory couch I love that can work in different spaces. I really loved the fringe, which is definitely top of the list of Grandmillennial living room ideas — I just hope I love it in the space. I also ordered these Bamboo side tables that I had been looking for and finally found by Society Social. We have some brown wood furniture that we’ve inherited and a brown wood secretary that I bought at an estate sale for $5, so I definitely need some pieces to modernize the room. I may also replace some of the brown wood as we go. I’m still debating the coffee table still, but using this Bunny Williams one as a placeholder. I’m afraid it’ll be too much of the same color but I just love the shape. I am going to get slipper chairs and curtains upholstered in the fabrics I’m toying with below, and a sisal rug custom made for the room and then go from there. We have the artwork I have in the mockup and it would be great on the wall behind the sofa, but I’m not sure it fits with the decor, so we have to decide if we want to replace the blue couch or get different artwork or maybe we can make it work. I’m playing with some different fabric options to see if I can tie in the green, or thinking of using some antique French panels I found at an estate sale behind the couch instead. We’ll see when the couch gets here, but having so much fun playing around with this. Anyway, here are our living room plans so far — will keep you updated as we go on my Insta and hopefully, some good grandmillenial living room ideas.
