I never thought I’d find myself getting so excited over a mudroom, but man, as a mom, I’m so excited about this space. In fact, I think one of my favorite parts of our new home is the fact that we have a mudroom. It’s actually rather large with lots of closet space and a bench, plus, plenty of room to take off shoes. I wish our garage opened to it, but that may be something we fix down the road, but you enter from the driveway/porch, which is really nice to have too. The mudroom is where all the coats and shoes and boots and bags go and offers lots of storage. Maybe one day we’ll add a door to it from the garage but in the meantime, I really want to give it a face lift, so I’ve been perusing the web for mudroom inspiration.
The mudroom is the first thing you see if you enter the house from the porch, and it opens to the kitchen and family room, so I really want to make it cute. Our mudroom is currently a color and schema that does not fit our design and opens to the kitchen and family room, so it’s our next room to tackle, starting with paint and maybe some wallpaper. I’ve seen some truly beautiful mudroom inspiration recently and it has me inspired to really make a statement with ours. It comes off of the front porch and driveway so it’s a room that guests often walk into so I really want to make it pretty. I’m thinking of painting the bead board and then doing a cute wallpaper above it, re-upholstering the bench cushion in a fun fabric to match, replacing the hooks and then adding a cute rug but leaving the floors as is for now. Maybe some artwork to finish out the look and some cute storage baskets for the shoes.
Since our kitchen and family room are blue and white schemes, I’m thinking of going that route in the mudroom with a blue and white paper like this one from Schumacher, but there’s also a pretty ticking stripe and I love how Ariel Okin paired it with green paint in her mudroom. Take a look at the mudroom inspiration I pulled and let me know what you think. I’m excited to get a little playful in this room and have some fun with paper.
I’m obsessed with this mudroom in designer Ariel Okin‘s house as pictured by Westchester Magazine. We have bead boarding like this and a similar floor, so we could do something along these lines, although I may not be brave enough to do the green so thinking about starting by painting the bead boards white and then doing a similar ticking stripe paper on the walls.

I also really love this gorgeous mudroom in Caitlin Fisher’s dreamy Marin home, which she shares tidbits of on Instagram and her newly designed blog.
