This was the last week of school for my oldest, and I am feeling all the feels. On the one hand, I’m ready for school to be out and so is he. I feel like the school year should end with Memorial Day and give us all a break from the routine and schedules and more time in the sun. With that said, this week marked the end of James’ kindergarten year and that means I’m going to have a “grader” as they’re called at his school and my biggest is taking another step towards being a boy, no longer my baby. He’ll always be my baby, but it feels like a real milestone into big kid school and life. I’m not ready for it. I feel like he was just born, and I don’t get to savor it all, because life is so busy and the other kids need me so much for the mundane. But we celebrated with ice cream and swimming and now we’re ready for a weekend of birthday parties, beach and pool. Not a bad way to kick off summer. Plus, James got a few free days to just play, and I think that was really awesome for him. I, however, did not get any time off, as you’ll see from my roundup of what I wore the third week of June 2023.
I had a really busy week of work this week that called for a power suit, a birthday dinner, and then some school visits before running to meetings and the office. It’s hard when a crazy week at work overlaps with an important week of school like the last week and an evening celebration for a friend (especially since I rarely make evening plans during the week), but as I tried to remind myself this week, some weeks are really crazy and you just have to get to the finish line. On those weeks, I eliminate all the extras. I try to plan ahead so I have content for here and social scheduled out, meals pre-planned (and most pre-made), I don’t attempt any house projects or random errands and save those for the next week, and I just streamline to focus on the big things that need to get done and making sure all the kids are set up. I also try to balance out those weeks by making sure my next week is quieter and leaves time for catch-up or QT with the fam, which may mean saying no to things. But attempting to make stressful weeks less stressful by taking out any extras and planning ahead, including outfits (what I wore the third week of June 2023 was all planned in advance) makes it easier to get through them and still have energy left for my littles. I also purposely left this weekend very open — no plans, no dinners, just kiddos sports and birthday parties and the rest can be for pool, beach, ordering in pizza and watching movies and RELAXING.
Here’s what I wore the third week of June 2023.
