We are in yet another heat wave, and as much as I love summer, I wouldn’t mind if the temps were more like 80 degrees than 90 and hot and humid. But I’m not going to complain (more than I am already) because honestly, summer is the best. Winter is cold and long. And it means lots of pool days and water play and just taking it easier because it’s too hot to do a ton. I said this summer I was going to garden and do more of our landscaping, but it’s been so hot, all the flowers have gotten burnt (legit, burnt), our vegetable garden isn’t really growing, and it’s been too hot to do all the constant weeding that I intended to do. So that will be next year’s project — though I’m focused on getting some hedges and trees planted a little later in the summer that I’m excited about. But as you’ll see from my roundup of what I wore the third week of July 2024, it’s too hot to do much more than throw on a dress or shorts and a tee (when I’m not living in swimsuits, which I am most afternoons since the pool or the beach is pretty much the only place to be after 1pm). Side note: We have not been going to the beach nearly enough this summer!
When it’s this hot, I am all about leaning into breezy dresses or just easy shorts and cute tees. It’s not the time to get complicated. I barely even wear jewelry because I hate anything sticking to me or sweating on accessories. And since I’m pregnant in the heat, I truly think the trick is just sundresses, sundresses, elastic waist shorts and putting your body in a pool or ocean as much as possible to stay cool. People keep asking how I’m doing in this heat, and honestly, I don’t think it’s any worse than not being pregnant. It’s just hot. But I’m also not commuting into an office everyday and sweating while waiting for a subway etc., so perhaps that’s why I’m not that bothered by it. Anyway, we are off to kick off our weekend with some pool time and then some family golf and beach time. Here’s what I wore the third week of July 2024.
