When spring arrives, it feels like every school, organization, and activity hosts a fundraiser. From spring fests to galas, there are lots of spring events to dress for and attend — all for a good cause. I am getting lots of requests for what to wear to a spring fundraiser, so it sounds like a lot of you have fundraising parties to attend. I always love all the excuses to dress up and socialize as the weather turns warmer, but figuring out what to wear to all the occasions can be a lot. You often see the same people at these events, so you don’t want to rewear too soon (although honestly, no one really cares and you should definitely rewear if you have a great dress that works). There’s also the juggle of trying to figure out the appropriate dress for the occasion. Many of these aren’t black tie (although I can do a spring gala roundup too if that’s helpful – lmk) but more cocktail-attire, and have directions like garden party or spring cocktail party attire. There’s also the weather to contend with — it’s often still a bit chilly especially at night but you also want to bed dressed for spring. So I thought I’d put together a post on what to wear to a spring fundraiser.
I always like to lean into color and pretty prints. While a black dress will totally suffice and is always appropriate and chic, wearing pretty colors feels festive and helps to nod to the season and occasion. If it’s not black tie, any hem length will work, from mini to midi to maxi. I’m often still pale in the spring, so if it’s pre-spring break I usually do a midi or maxi to cover my pasty legs and offer more coverage since it still tends to be a bit chilly. But you can always do a spray tan or embrace the pale and show some leg. I would skip the tights once spring has arrived. Sandals work but if you’re worried about your feet getting cold, try closed toe mules or heels. I will even whip out a fancy ballet flat, especially if I’ll be walking in grass. I don’t usually do the espadrilles, which feel too casual and summer-y for a spring fundraiser. But I live in the north east and if you’re somewhere that it’s already starting to feel like summer (like the south), I think they’re fair game.
