James is a September baby and this year, for his birthday we decided to throw a fun fall-themed birthday party at home. This was somewhat out of necessity. He’s early into the school year so he doesn’t really know his new class that well and is the first birthday so the protocol of whether to just do single gender or who to invite hasn’t been set yet and he wants to invite a lot of his buddies from his class last year, which I get. I always feel like his party is also the kick off to school year for the class so it’s nice to include everyone (especially because we’re still relatively new here) but that means a big party with lots of kids. And as someone who often finds herself lugging a sibling or two along to weekend birthday parties, I want everyone to feel like they can do the same. But that means we’re talking about a whole lot of kids and potentially parents (we’re still in the mix of drop off and stay party stage) and there aren’t many birthday party venues in the area let alone ones that can accommodate a party of that size and do so without charging a million dollars. We decided this year to try throwing it at our house so we didn’t have to worry about numbers and everyone could come and go between the soccer and hockey and lacrosse and swim practices – fall is just so hard for scheduling. But that means we needed to come up with fun activities and entertainment that would work for a lot of kids. So rather than going with a Pokemon or Mine Craft or other popular seven year old birthday theme, we decided to lean into the season and look for fall festival birthday party ideas.
We’re going to do bounce houses and maybe water guns and sports if the weather is still this hot, but since it’s mid-September, it may also be too cool and we will need some other outdoor activities. I love a theme and think it helps tie together the food, activities and decor, and actually makes it easier to plan, so I decided to make James’ seventh birthday a fall carnival at our house and started researching fall festival birthday party ideas. From decor to food to activities, I found so many cute ideas, so I’m excited to share all the fall festival birthday party ideas inspiring our celebration for James’ special day.
