Like many first time parents, I went all out for James’ first birthday. It felt like such a huge milestone in all our lives, and well, I had been looking forward to it. Plus, it took me a full year to start to feel like myself again after having my first, and I was excited to mark the occasion. I agonized over the theme (eventually going with an adorable circus one) and the food and even his first birthday gifts. Charlotte’s first birthday was slightly more subdued, being that it was during the pandemic, but I still stressed out over the paper plates for the cake and the entertainment (my amazing, talented sister-in-law provided musical entertainment for the kiddos). Now that we’re on three, I thought I’d just do a cake with the fam and call it a day, but I think I want to throw Brooks a proper first birthday party. I feel so blessed to have him in our life and now in our new home, and his birthday is really at the end of winter (because winter really doesn’t end until the end of March), so it feels like a great time to celebrate with a party. And because I’m Type A and love to plan a party, I’ve already started gathering first birthday party inspiration.
When planning a party, I always start with a theme and go from there. I spent some time on Pinterest and the ‘gram looking for different first birthday party inspiration. I really love all these choices, so I haven’t committed to a theme yet, but I’m leaning towards a Wild Things party given that he’s proving to be our wild child (well, one of three). With that said, I also love the idea of something sweet like Peter Rabbit or The Little Prince or Winnie the Poo. Take a look at the first birthday party inspiration I’ve gathered and let me know what you think we should do for Brooks’ birthday (tear, tear).
