Happy Fourth of July! We are spending the weekend up at the Lake so I’m actually writing this before we take off. I’m looking forward to unplugging for a few days and just focusing on family and fun. I really need a break to recharge. While Disney was technically a trip, it was not a vacation. It was go go go and exhausting. I’m not complaining – we had the times of our lives and I feel so lucky that we got to go, but I certainly needed a week to recover and alas, I didn’t get it with camp starting and crazy schedules juggling. So when we were thinking about what to do for the long holiday weekend, I was excited at the idea of being able to just drive up to the lake rather than traveling somewhere and dealing with all of that. The kids have a great set up up there and we can enjoy some fun Fourth of July festivities without tons of stress. Plus, the lake just feels like the Fourth with sailing, canoeing ,kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, biking, s’mores, etc. I’m from the midwest so I grew up going to the lake, so it feels like a fun tradition that I love for our family. It’ll also be Brooks’ first time up there believe it or not, so excited to celebrate that first.
I am planning for a casual weekend. We’ll be living in bathing suits but I’m also packing some cute outfits for dinner and docktails (cocktails on the dock). You know me — I love an excuse to dress up, especially when it involves matching my children. Don’t @ me — I’ll be doing it as long as they let me. And probably bribing them after that. It’s also a good way to keep track of them in a crowd of other kids. So really it’s a brilliant mom hack too. Feel free to steal lol.
Before we head off for our weekend away, I wanted toI share the adorable matching outfits the kids will be wearing for the Fourth. I started this blog and my Instagram to share things I love, including cute brands I discover, which is one of my favorite things to do. The kids’ wore these adorable matching lobster outfits recently and they got so many compliments, that I wanted to share them on here too because I think you guys will love them and I love supporting a small business, especially when it makes adorable kids clothes. Classic Prep is based in Connecticut and run by a super mom. Their clothes are so well made and they have the most adorable prints. Each season, I buy my kids a bunch of clothes from there because I know they’ll stand the test of time and are great for dressier occasions as well as every day. I also love their sample sales and online warehouse sales, which are always full of great deals. James is hard on his clothes, but I’m pleased to say his Classic Prep items have actually survived to be passed down to Brooks, which I can’t say for most of his other clothes. Anyway, they currently have a lot of cute styles on sale, and if you’re looking for cute matching outfits for the fam, I highly recommend the adorable looks the kiddos are wearing. And fyi (and probably tmi): Brooks had a huge blowout in his outfit, and it came right out in the wash.
