Every season, I like to put together a bucket list with all the things I want to accomplish as a family. It’s my approach to making the most out of every season and really trying to squeeze the most out of these short years we have as a family before the kids are heading to overnight summer camp or even college (tear). I know that is forever away, but I’m constantly reminded that the days are long but the years are short, and I really want to make the most of our time as a family. I also like to have a list of activities that we can do each summer that we can look at when we need something to do to fill an afternoon or weekend. This summer, I am hoping to spend more time doing fun stuff with the kids so I put together our summer bucket list 2024.
I know it feels a bit late in the summer to be sharing our Summer Bucket List 2024 but actually for us, summer just began. The kids (well, James really) just got out of school, so it’s only officially been summer break for a week. So it doesn’t feel late. But that doesn’t mean summer isn’t flying by and school and fall will be here before we know it. We actually only have two full months left, so I’m on a mission to make it a really fun one. With a baby coming, I know our time as a family of five is limited and I want to make the most of it so here’s our summer bucket list 2024.
Go Strawberry Picking. Any good recs in the CT area? Did we miss strawberry season?
Visit the Hamptons. Even if it’s just for a night or two, I want to make a trip to our favorite spot. Next year, we want to spend a few weeks or more there, but for now, a weekend trip will do.
Go to the Beach. We live not far from an amazing beach, so I want to plan a few beach days.
Take the kids sailing. We’ll do this up at the lake house. James can really start learning this year.
Spend Fourth of July at the lake. It’s always a tradition for us to go to the lake for the Fourth. We haven’t in a few years, and I’m excited to go back up and do our traditions of a fireworks competition with the neighbors across the lake.
See Our Town Fireworks. Our town has a big fireworks celebration that we’re excited to hit up this year. It’s the Saturday after the Fourth so we’ll come back for it.
Celebrate My Father in Law’s Birthday. We’re headed to Antigua with my husband’s whole family to celebrate my Father-in-Law’s birthday. It will be so fun. I want to plan some fun excursions and activities while we’re there.
Sprinkler and Slip n Slide. We’ve already done this a bunch and the kids love it. Sometimes I forget to break this out on hot days when we’re not in the mood for the pool so I’m keeping it on my summer bucket list 2024.
Take the Kids Golfing. I want to at least introduce our bigger kids to golf a bit this summer even if it’s just a couple twilight holes. For some reason we didn’t do it much last year and this feels like the right time.
Visit Cape Cod. We’ve only been once before kids and I think it’d be really fun for our family to make a trip there one of the weekends before school starts. Any recs for where to stay?
Make a Day or Overnight Trip to Watch Hill, RI. This is another spot we haven’t been to in forever and is close enough for us to spend a bit of time at. Whether we do a day trip or overnight, I’m excited to explore.
Visit Southport. We haven’t spent a lot of time in some of the nearby towns that are so cute. I’m putting Southport on our summer bucket list 2024.
Power Wash the House. We just got a power washer, and I want to really get our house looking great on the outside.
August Trip. I am really craving a trip to London. I’m trying to convince my husband to come along so we can do it in August. I know it feels like a lot with three kiddos, but I think it would be a really special and memorable time.
Bike Rides. We don’t do this nearly enough and I want to get back into the habit.
Movie with the Kids. Next rainy or super hot day, I want to take the big kids (and maybe Brooks?!) to see one of the new summer movies for kids.
S’Mores: We love making s’mores at the lake but we now have a fire pit at the house too that we’ll be using for nightly s’mores as well.
Paddle Boarding, Kayaking, Sailing and Canoe Rides: Adding this to my summer 2023 bucket list even though it’s on my bucket list every year. We love playing with all the water toys at the lake and the kids are getting old enough where it’s really fun.
Lemonade Stand. Will this be the year we finally do this?!
Finish Two House Projects. I have two big house projects I want to get done before the summer is over: 1) Plant trees along the sides of our yard 2) Paint and replace our basement carpet.
Bahamas: We’re going to make a family trip to the Bahamas at the end of summer to visit Baha Mar. I can’t wait.
And that’s it for our summer bucket list 2024. What’s on your list?
