Here we are in April and spring is finally here and I’m feeling the pull of a fresh start. I love the changing of seasons. It’s weird because as much as I look forward to warmer weather and all the activities and parties and excitement spring brings, it always feels a little uncomfortable for me too. Almost like I don’t know what to do with myself. I think maybe it’s that life is continuing on, but the weather is nice, the sun is shining and I feel like I should be stopping my usual routine and doing something else. Or maybe it’s just that the transitions from hibernating mode and one routine to the next feels uncomfortable at first. As much as I’m over winter, that routine, we have down pat and now it’s a new one. I don’t know. But still, I’m welcoming spring and the fresh start it brings. I’m looking forward to getting organized this month and getting prepared for summer while also enjoying some family time and our new town now that it’s nice out. I’m really trying to be consistent with setting my intentions at the start of each month and sharing them with you to help hold myself accountable and maybe inspire some of you to join me on this journey (please, promise it’ll be fun!), so I’m outlining my April 2023 goals today.
Unplug Over Spring Break and Enjoy Our Trip: We are going to take the kids on vacation for their spring break this year, and I’m so excited to surprise them with the most epic trip. It will not be a vacation for Andrew and I per se, but we are going to stay at the most fun resort for kids, take them on some amazing excursions and it’s going to be awesome for them. I’m going to make a real concerted effort to unplug while we’re there and just focus on my family and kids and honestly, I need the break too.
Finalize Kids’ Summer Camp Plans: I am still trying to work out what camp the kids will do, so I’m hoping to finalize all those plans before the end of the month so we can really plan for a super fun summer, our first in our new town.
Plan Our Summer Vacation: The camps here don’t really go into August, so we’re going to have a few weeks in August without plans. I have the opportunity to work remote and I think I really want to take advantage of this time when we don’t have a million plans and activities and sports and work to potentially go somewhere as a family for a few weeks. I’ve been wavering between renting a house somewhere driveable and going somewhere far flung and fun. Any suggestions? Sadly, we’re way behind on the house rental process at most of the hotspots, so may need to get creative…
Figure Out Better System for Batching Content: I’m finding it hard to keep up with the demands of Instagram and TikTok algos and producing content for the blog, which I’m also trying to update and plan a refresh of eventually. I think I need to start batch shooting more content and planning ahead better so I can match words with visuals and not post so off the cuff, so my goal is to map out blog and social content for the month and plan shoot dates etc.
Plan April and May Content for Blog and Socials: Going along with my first goal, I’d like to map out what I’m planning for the next couple months so I can be organized.
Wallpaper Kids’ Rooms and Bathrooms: We have the paper, now we just need to get it up. This is my goal for April and can’t wait to share the pics!
Finalize Phase 1 of Primary Bedroom: I want to get a dresser and bedding for our primary bedroom as well as a light fixture and do some paint touchups to get our primary bedroom in slightly better shape.
Clean Out Kids’ Closets: I need to organize what fits, what doesn’t and what they need for spring and summer.
Exercise Before Kids Get Up in the Morning: I started doing this and dropped the ball, and I really want to get back into it. It gives me so much more time in my day when I get up early and get exercise in.
Share More of Our Interior Decorating Journey: I shot a little more of our interiors per my March 2023 goals, but for my April 2023 goals, I want to document more of the progress too.
Update Blog SEO: I need to continue this journey that I started in March, and get through more posts that need SEO updates and keywords.
Go Easier on the Kids: I want to give the kids more space to just be kids. I think I”m so often correcting or trying to get them to do something or to the next transition/stage but would love to also love give them more space for fun and laughter and all the things.
Paint Basement: We have a lot of work to do down there, but in the meantime, I’d love to just get it painted a different color than its current yellow hue, so I may make painting one of our April 2023 goals even if it’s just a blank white for now.
Explore Some Nearby Towns: I am looking forward to spending more time exploring the towns around our new home, especially now that it’s nicer out and we can walk around.
Plan Two Date Nights: I really need to plan these at the start of the month or they just won’t happen.
And that’s it for my April 2023 goals. I feel like it’s not anything too exciting but lots to get done still.
