We are back from a long weekend away just Mom and Dad, and it was just what the doctor ordered. Andrew and I hadn’t been away just the two of us in forever, and it felt like every time we tried to make big plans to get away, something got in the way, like Covid or the arrival of our new baby or bad weather or a sick kid. So we just haven’t really been away only the two of us since I think we went to a wedding once without James for a night when he was probably one. Needless to say, a romantic couple’s getaway was very much needed. I’m still a bit wary of leaving the kids, especially Brooks. He’s still so young and right now, he’s tottering around and getting into everything so he’s a lot to handle. And three kids is a big ask and well, I get freaked out at ever leaving the children and should probably work on that. But my point is that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to commit to going anywhere far away, so we decided to test the waters and go somewhere closer to home and explore Litchfield, CT and that whole area, since it’s now just an hour-ish away from our new home and we’ve heard so many great things about the area and its restaurants and hotels/inns. It was the perfect quiet, low-key weekend we needed and a lot of fun to reconnect and just be together without the kids, even if some of the plans involved picking out marble for our countertops (lol) and forcing IG Hubs to take blog pics (but the upside is you get to see what I wore for a weekend in Litchfield).
But we also squeezed in some great meals and shopping and a little wine tasting. I’ll do a recap of my recs in the area, but all in all, it was a great time. We checked out the Mayflower Inn, which is an interior lover’s dream (in other words, I could move in there) and such a great spot with delicious food and definitely a place we look forward to coming back to (or I will revisit with some girlfriends because I didn’t get to visit the spa this time but hear it’s amazing). We also checked out The Litchfield Inn, where we stayed on Saturday night and had a great experience there as well. It is a great property, with really great hospitality and nice touches like snack time cookies and snacks and pre-dinner wine and apps. It feels a bit more kid-friendly than the Mayflower, but also made a great spot to stay for a couple’s getaway and we didn’t feel like we were at a kids resort or anything. In fact, we felt like it was a sweet romantic spot to get some time away from our kids. It was still pretty chill in Litchfield, so I wore a mix of sweaters and jeans and cute spring-y outfits that was perhaps a bit cold for but I was excited to whip out without any kids to spill on me/use me as their personal napkin, and well, because I had time to get dressed up and look cute. So I thought this week, I’d share what I wore for a weekend in Litchfield.
The vibe there is super casual and it definitely feels like the country, so you can really go either way. I would have been fine in jeans and sweaters and boots the whole time, but we saw some peeks of spring during the weekend and I was excited to wear some cuter clothes I have gotten for spring. Plus, it was fun to dress up for lunch and dinner dates and even wine tasting. Blog post with a full weekend recap and recs for where to stay, eat, and all the things coming soon. But first, here’s what I wore for a weekend in Litchfield.
