Although I had planned to go room by room when decorating and “refreshing” our new home, that sort of fell apart early on. That’s partly because the way I like to decorate and shop is to jump on something amazing I find at an estate sale or auction or secondhand store, or to fall for something I see on Insta or Pinterest and use it for inspo, or snag a piece I’ve been lusting over go on sale. So rather than doing one room and then the next, I’m slowly putting together each space as I find things I love for them and snag some steals during sales/auctions etc. It’s making my head feel like I have a million tabs open no doubt, but I love the process and thrill of the hunt, and it’s helping me create more unique spaces. With that said, I have focused a lot on the spaces we use the most, like the kitchen, family room and now, I have my eyes set on our powder room. We use our powder room a lot — it’s the only bathroom on the first floor, which is where we spent most of our time as a family, so I have to look at it daily. I also pee a lot now (thank you children) so I have to look at it multiple times a day. And it’s not thrilling me right now. Luckily, my husband feels the same way (he too, uses the bathroom frequently/not to shame him but we all know how men disappear in the bathroom). We initially painted it white just to give it a quick refresh when we moved in, mostly because the beige color it was painted just felt so drab. But the floors really need a refresh and it needs more color and an accessories makeover (i.e., new fixtures). I want to give it some wallpaper to bring in some color and make it really pop and well, because I’d wallpaper everything if I could. But I also love a fresh, clean look. I shared some powder room inspiration here earlier, but honestly, nothing was calling my name that strongly, so I put our plans on hold while I waited for a paper or design inspo to call my name. But honestly, the space has been bumming me out, so I decided to start making some choices, and I’m sharing our blue powder room plans today.
As you may have guessed by now, I love blue and have a thing for blue and white decor. It’s the central color through our house. Our last home was more greens in our living spaces, and while I do love green and it’s having a moment right now, blue has captured my heart for this house and honestly, goes well with the design and bones of the space. Our family room and kitchen are a a mix of blues and white but with more of a navy spin. Our dining room and living room have more of lighter blues throughout. So it’s not shocking that I decided to go for a blue powder room, but I want to go for more of a lighter/medium blue as we have bead boarding on the walls that I think lend themselves better to that type of blue. Plus, I’m going to go with more of a navy and white design in the kids’ bathroom upstairs. In any event, I wanted to share our powder room plans. The only question is which wallpaper to use, so um, help me decide?
