I’m now a little over two weeks postpartum and I finally feel like getting dressed again. I’ve graduated from a wee pad to a diaper size pad for a bit of TMI, and have started to feel like leaving the house once again. It’s funny because after I had Charlotte I felt like I was out and about a bit sooner. But maybe that’s because we were in the city and I was more anonymous. I also had fewer kids. Three is definitely a lot. But I’m slowing starting to feel more and more like myself and more capable as each day goes by. Brooks is growing and while we’re feeding on demand, I’m starting to get a rhythm (I think) with him and me. And that had allowed me the opportunity to get dressed here and there. So after a couple week hiatus, I’m ready to start sharing outfits again, so I’ve put together what I wore the second week of April 2022. And please give me a round of applause because getting dressed and documenting my looks is no easy feat and as most postpartum mamas know, the last thing you want to do after giving birth. But alas, I love you guys this much and would also love to have a resource that shows what actual women wore postpartum, so I’ll take one for the team.
Because I have the other kiddos, I kind of have to get my act together and get out (instead of living in a robe the entire fourth trimester like I did with numero uno). I have found that I feel more pressure to get dressed when I do leave the house than I did pre-pregnancy – maybe to compensate for the bags under my eyes and dry shampooed hair. Idk. But I will say that I’ll get dressed to take the kids to a birthday party, to school, on an adventure, a doctor’s appointment, etc. and then I’ll come home and change back into my sweats and a breastfeeding friendly tee or tank. I’m not sitting around in dresses or jeans these days. But it’s nice sometimes to get dressed for a few minutes. I will say that I’m not trying to fit into my skinny jeans right now — I don’t recommend trying that when you’re newly postpartum. I actually suggest continuing to wear maternity jeans, buying jeans a size up or wearing your loosest/most comfy ones like I’ve been doing at least until you’re no longer wearing a diaper (tmi but I still am) because with all those hormones and just the reality of what giving birth and pregnancy does to your body, you can find yourself in tears over something that doesn’t fit when in reality, it shouldn’t because you just gave birth. Anyway, just my postpartum dressing advice I learned the hard way after James. Take what you will. Here’s what I wore the second week of April 2022.
