Well, we are back at the camp and squeezing in work between camp and naps and activities after a full week celebrating the Fourth of July. I’m actually sort of impressed at how well we transitioned back and really transitioned to a completely new routine. The kids started a new camp that’s only 1/2 day, so I have less time to get work done, but maybe that was the key. Starting a new routine instead of diving back into the old and keeping camp a bit shorter. The long days in the sun are hard and we’re currently experiencing a heat wave, as you’ll see from my roundup of what I wore the first week of July 2024. Then again, I’m sure they just saved the epic meltdowns for this weekend. Or maybe we’re all in summer mode now and just leaning into sort of the mess and chaos and fun of it all? I have to say that’s been really hard for me, not just my kids. I actually think the kids are doing pretty well at it, and I’m the one having meltdowns and tantrums. Could definitely be the pregnancy hormones, which I’ve been totally ignoring. (Anyone else do that when they’re pregnant or getting their period and wonder why they’re acting so crazy and blame themselves only to realize it totally was the wacky hormones?) But I tend to thrive on schedules and getting all my to-dos done and efficiency — basically what the opposite of summer with kids is about. I have had to really embrace not getting it all done and letting each day be different and not always having a game plan. But that also gives me anxiety and has been really hard for me, so it hasn’t been the blissful start to summer I imagined. This is probably the universe preparing me for the chaos and total lack of control we’ll have once Baby #4 arrives.
But we’ve made it to the weekend. It’s funny but I’m toggling between extreme craving for adventure and traveling and nesting and finishing every home project and then of course taking endless naps. It’s a weird dynamic. But what can I say? I have a lot to pack in before I hunker down into newborn mode. So I’m going to try to force Andrew to do a million home projects with me this weekend and then road trip to either Watch HIll or the Hamptons. I”m nothing if not fun, right? But before I go tell him my grand plans (poor guy), here’s what I wore the first week of July 2024.
